Dear Pro Mod Wad, I'm preparing to build a 5-inch 706 nitrous engine to run Pro Modified. My piston maker said to max out the static compression ratio. The combo I'm looking at now has 16.54/1 C/R and a 1.398 rod ratio. Are these figures OK in your opinion? I was also planning friction and thermal coating the pistons. Is that a worthwhile cost? Thanks. Rick Rick, The rod angle is right-on but C/R is way high! If you are planning to run multiple stages of nitrous you should have C/R in the 13.5 or 14 to 1 area. Any more than that will give you terrible detonation problems. Most of the strong-running Pro Mod racers have been up and down on ratios and all are back to the 13.5 area. You will do yourself a large favor if you stay in that range. Hope I have helped you on this issue. Wady Hamam |
