THE DRO PRO MODIFIED CUP
AN UNSANCTIONED, UNOFFICAL, WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS
PROGRAM FOR THE AMS STAFF LEASING PRO MOD CHALLENGE SERIES COMPETITORS
Because the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge Series is strictly
an NHRA exhibition series, there can be no official points program,
and consequently no "World Champion."
That situation seems unfair for a class that has had professional status
for over 10 years and the class' competitors, many of whom spend upwards
of seven figures on their racing programs.
So Drag Racing Online Editor Jeff Burk and Kenny Nowling of Nowling
Motorsports Management, both of whom do public relations work for several
of the Pro Modified teams on the NHRA circuit, put together a points
program. Following the last NHRA Pro Mod race of the season at Las Vegas,
the duo will name a completely unofficial, unsanctioned "World Champion"
for the AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge Series.
The winning driver will receive a leather jacket, his name on the DRO
Cup and perhaps most importantly a "World Championship" ring.
When AMS Staff Leasing CEO Dave Wood heard about the program he also
wanted to be involved. As a result the "World Champion" will also receive
a $1000 check courtesy of AMS Staff Leasing. The jacket, trophy and
ring will also have the AMS Staff Leasing logo on them.
All points will be counted beginning with the first race of the year
at Gainesville. In the coming days how points are accumulated and the
top eight racers in the standings will be posted in a special section
of Drag Racing Online's Agent 1320 notes. Having won both events thus
far, Shannon Jenkins is leading the unofficial points program.
Points will be kept and standings tabulated by Agent 1320's crack accounting
staff who were formerly employed by Enron.
