HOOD ROLLS TO WIN FIRST U.S. NATIONALS
PRO MOD TITLE
Ronnie Hood has attended every NHRA "exhibition" race
during the 2001 NHRA Pro Mod season and has qualified for every race.
Hood and his team's year of hard work finally paid off big with a win
at the inaugural Pro Mod race at the U.S. Nationals. Hood qualified
sixth but used his skills as a driver to advance to the finals with
a holeshot 6.388/222.29 win over rival IHRA hitter Quain Stott, who
recorded a quicker but losing 6.336/221.20! A tip of the DRO hat to
Hood and all of his crew and sponsors on their win.
ODDY, HAHN MAKE QUICKEST AND FASTEST LEGAL PRO MOD
PASSES
Owner/tuner
Jim Oddy and driver Fred Hahn had one of those "good news, bad news"
weekends at the U.S. Nationals. On their first two passes they recorded
the quickest and fastest legal Pro Mod passes. On the first pass the
Summit Racing Equipment-backed supercharged 'Vette ran a 6.234/228.46
for the fastest legal speed ever, and on the second pass they ran a
6.170/227.96.
Both of those passes were made using the new engine combination that
Oddy has been developing for this season. Unfortunately, the experimental
piece had a few problems which forced the team to put last year's motor
in the car for eliminations. The difference in the engines dramatically
affected the handling of the car.
