PRO NITRO FLYERS AT FIREBIRD

Photos by Tim Marshall

The Pro Nitro racers took to the track at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix and DRO photog Tim Marshall took a nostalgic look at the action. Fuel altereds, top fuel dragsters and a few other beasts - all on nitro! Take a deep breath, wipe your eyes, and enjoy.

Event winner Larry Leonard (rear) matches up in qualifying with the famous "Rat Trap."

The "Bad Company" '32 Bantam of Steve Tryon lines up against Larry Pettit's "Hellfire." Pettit holds the Top Speed record of 219.29 mph set in May at Tucson.

Ever seen a "Psychotic Banana?" You have now.

The "Blown Bad Boys" brought all kinds of vehicles, including trucks.

Here is the winner of the Classic Top Fuel class. Anybody got a tape measure? Man, what a difference compared to the altereds.

Rich Howell was the Top Fuel low e.t. qualifier at 6.62.
