WIN A QUARTER-MILLION

Dan Hall, an unheralded young bracket racer from Hernando,
Miss., took home the lion's share of loot at the first-ever Quarter-Million
Dollar Drag Race held over the April 18-21 weekend at Huntsville (Alabama)
Dragway by besting his final-round opponent in a dragster that for Hall
was just two races old.
Hall (photo) beat semi-pro bracket racer Dave Szerlag
of Livonia, Mich. in the final in Saturday's Quarter-Million race when
Szerlag flinched off his trans brake button and had a bad reaction time.
Hall was to the good with a .523 tree and ran 5.166 off a .514 dial-in.
The pair raced for a $50,000 first-place prize.
Szerlag (photo), teamed with two bracket and class racing
greats, Mike Fuqua of Hendersonville, Tenn. and Scotty Richardson of
Goodlettsville, Tenn., redeemed himself by getting another runner-up
finish on Sunday to teammate Richardson in the race's final "Twin 20s"
go. Richardson praised Szerlag as the meet's winningest driver.
