Mike,
We have a 449 motor with a Fogger system. It is in a '79 Trans Am with a 400 Turbo. It is working just fine. The car will have to weigh 3300 lbs for the new season. Is the car too heavy for a powerglide? We run 8.20's with it.

Thanks. David McCoy

David,

If you are running 8.20's with a turbo, there is no telling how fast you can go with a Powerglide. Your 400 set-up is probably right on the edge of spinning the tires. The Glide will take at least 50 pounds of weight off the car, most of which is rotating weight. The higher first gear ratio will hook the car up on a more consistent basis. The Powerglide transbrake is consistently much quicker than the Turbo. For vehicles with the kind of horsepower you have, the Glide almost always prevails.

At Mike's Transmission we build several versions of the Powerglide specifically for racing. These include the Monster Glide that we use in our own 6.08/225-mph dragster, as well as the Ultimate Turbo 400, the Ultimate Vasco Turbo 400, the Street/Strip 400, and others.

If you want to switch to a Powerglide, we suggest an Ultimate Vasco Glide in a Dedenbear case. This transmission has a billet gear set, 4340 output shaft, Vasco turbo input shaft, and an 8-clutch drum, among other very durable components.
