Steve,
More gear would
help depending on where the engine wants
to run. Usually big small blocks have
a lot of torque over a broad rpm range.
It sounds like you may have a pretty big
cam that is killing some bottom, mid-range
power. I think that you could probably
put some more gear in the rear 4.88, 5.13
or 1.96--low in the transmission could
help. A little work on the motor combo
for more mid-range torque might be a good
idea too.
