A friend of mine installed an 8" 5500 stall converter behind his 468c.i. 650 HP BBC. The converter was given to him by another guy that had it behind his SBC powered 1600 pound Vega. That guy said this is what he needs to go faster. Turns out that the BBC ran slower by almost 2 seconds with this converter. My friend has since ordered an 8" 5500 stall set-up for his BBC.

Why exactly will a converter set-up for a SBC, not work behind a BBC?

J. Wilson,

Torque conversions are, as you know, as different and as varied as the engines that they go behind. A high torque small block can easily stall higher then a big block with a big duration cam and a big set of heads. A custom built torque converter built to your engine specs is the best way to go. We have a special data sheet on my website, mikestransmission.com just for torque converter ordering. The right converter can make or break a car setup. The wrong setup can just kill an otherwise fast car.
