combination of unusually cool air, 500-ft below sea level air pressure, and the exceptional bite provided by the Bradenton Motorsports Park's surface resulted in a slew of unreal elapsed times and speeds from NHRA and IHRA Pro Stock teams that were testing at that facility the week of January 6-12.

Both the GM-backed teams' and the DaimlerChrysler teams' cars recorded speeds and elapsed times better than the existing NHRA national records for the class and had runs that had would have backed up the new records!

Kurt Johnson

The GM-backed team of Warren and Kurt Johnson both tested extensively and Kurt's Cavalier recorded both the quickest time and the fastest mile-per-hour for the NHRA contingent with a best E.T. of 6.71 and a best speed of 205.85.

Warren Johnson

Warren Johnson's best elapsed time was a 6.72 and his top speed was a 205.15 which was tied by Mopar race team owner Allen Johnson's 205.15.

Allen Johnson

The brand new, Mopar, factory-works team of Allen Johnson and Darrell Alderman had their Hemi-powered Mopars on hand and, judging by their performances, were ready for the season to begin. Both cars were solidly in the 6.70's with Darrell running a best elapsed time for the team at 6.72 and Allen getting Top Speed of the meet with a stunning 205.85. The Johnson camp had an all-star crew working on their Mopars including Rickie Smith, Tom Lee, and clutch/computer wiz Mike Sullivan.
