PRO MOD RULES
Adding of turbo's may create a little problem. Along with
all the other rule changes they say are coming, SFI is gonna
have their hands full. Ad. et cert. is good to 6.00
and slower; what happens when we start seeing Pro Mods running
in the 5's at most of the tracks NHRA runs at?
Thank you.

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?
You're BANG ON, Jeff! In 1979 I was in the Division 3 offices
signing the sanction papers when I was told by Bob Daniels
that NHRA was only interested in 3 pro categories and the
rest would ultimately be a huge bracket race! I suppose that's
what it's come to with all sportsman classes running off
records or that other term used can dial anything they want.
The only miss was the addition of the 4th pro class...Lord
knows why that one came along. If we discount the sticker
money, we can all make more money at a weekend bracket race
than at a national event.
You're absolutely correct...I don't think Wally intended
it to be this way. I could never quite get a grip on why
Gibbs left to manage the museum, and I sure as hell can't
figure out why anyone would put that putz Stewart on the
starting line! Witness the right lane at Pomona, eh? I suppose
I've passed off a ton of stuff in the name of progress, but
it's sure not the same thing as when you and I started in
this game.
I knew Larry Carrier personally from the time he started
IHRA and, frankly, that's not the same either. You know the
story on Bristol's tower and Wally's comment that it would
be the tombstone for Larry's failure. As far as I know, Larry
still sends Wally a Christmas card with that tower on it!
The "suits" have generated a ton of cash flow,
but I'm not so sure it's all for the better. I appreciate
your investigation of this issue, and your accurate and impartial
reporting. Keep up the excellent work!

DEAD SOLID PERFECT
As usual, you did a very good job. The part about current
management being totally profit and not racing oriented was
dead solid perfect. And the fact that the old management
brought in Compton et al shows they also have gotten dollar
signs in their eyes.
I was surprised to hear only two divisions of sportsmen
were in the black financially. Curious to see which two they
are, and how this is decided (who is looking at the books).
Sometimes I wonder how the NASCAR bunch ever did it, seeing
how NHRA is floundering around with no plan for the future
that I (sportsman racer) can see. But never let it stop them
from appointing more Vice Presidents in Charge of Silly Stuff.
Why do you need a special VP to plan national events? What
is Graham Light doing?
As usual, I enjoyed your comments. Keep them coming. And
I hope George Howard makes it work. Sportsman racing needs
a shot in the arm, but heads up gets expensive fast. Real
fast, much faster than the cars are.
