Mid-Season Top Ten
I thought I would do a mid-season check-up
on the top ten drivers based on points and see where they
stood in comparison to various stats. Here are some of my
observations:
Beginning with Pro Stock, Greg Stanfield is not ranked in
the top 12 in average qualifying position, ET or mph, yet
is #8 in points...maybe it's his #2 ranking in reaction and
3 holeshot wins. Greg Anderson is not ranked #1 in any of
the stats except the one that counts...points. W.J. is in
the top 3 in every stat except reaction time and has lost
5 times on holeshots.
On to Funny Car, where you have John Force. Just like Greg
Anderson, he's not ranked #1 in any stat, but they both know
how to win and lead in points. The Force camp may want to
bring in a reaction time trainer for John and his protégés
...John is ranked 12th and Medlen and Hight are not even in
the top 12 in reaction time. Ron Capps "no ranking"
in ET is because he went 4 rounds under full power in St.
Louis, which sort of "penalizes" you in the stats.
The same thing happens in Denver-- you go 4 rounds under full
power and it worsens your ET and mph stats.
In Top Fuel, Tony Schumacher's ranking of 10th in ET is a
little misleading ...averaged in is a 8.212 qualifying #14
ET at Bristol. But that is what this is all about, averages.
Karen Stoffer has come from the bottom of qualifying positions
to do well enough to be ranked #5 in points.
