The buck stops where?

Generally, by January, there are all sorts of juicy rumors floating around about this or that team, driver, crew chief or sponsor... this has so far been a pretty quiet off-season from a rumor standpoint.

Burk, you asked who to blame for the steadily decreasing revenue of the NHRA since the high of 2008. While something must be said about the economy in general, in every other venue, it's the captain of the ship that bears that responsibility.

Tom Compton would be that captain.

His job is to promote, protect and maintain (even grow) the NHRA, a job that he has failed to do. When a pro sports team doesn't live up to expectations, the head coach loses his job. Why should the NHRA be any different? Produce or get your resume in order is how most businesses operate, and drag racing is very much a business.

Hello Mr. Burk: I have thought for years Tom Compton is the biggest slug holding NHRA down. If you want proof replay Compton awarding Jack Beckman his world championship Wally, he looked like it was just painful for him to be there among the "little" people.

A voice in the wilderness

I just read Jeff Burk’s Just Wondering article in Drag Racing Online and I wonder why the NHRA does not listen to the media who are connected to all aspects of drag racing.

If the NHRA does nothing to make some of the changes that have been featured in this publication, drag racing as we know it will continue to fall off the pace of auto racing entertainment.
