Where’s Guy Fieri when you need him?

Burkster, I consider myself an avid fan of drag racing, but in this day of pay at the first window and pick up your order at the second, I find myself flipping channels during rounds, not just commercials. I have noticed that there is more new information on one thirty-minute episode of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives than a whole weekend of Mello Yello Drag Racing. We get no new info or anything to hold our interest.

I am starting to view it like the Weather Channel: it’s not very interesting but I have to see what the weather (racing) is.

Is this why the Big Show will have 50-minute turnarounds?

Oh, how I miss the good old days of racing. This quote is in your 1320 notes from the Bakersfield March Meet.

"Because of multiple delays during the event, Nostalgia Eliminator 1, 2 and 3 as well as all Gas classes and Hot Rod would complete eliminations on Monday, March 11."

Also, the finals in fuel went off in the cold dark night.

A couple of comments. One reason I stopped attending NHRA national events for a while was the events ran late into the night on Sunday night. Driving home and trying to get up for work was a real hassle. Say what you will about the watered down NHRA 1000-ft racing, but at least I can get to work on Monday. (My wife stopped going altogether because of course I had to wait for all of the finals.)

Also, sure they can charge less for concessions at Bakersfield because they make up for it in volume (you are there into the night), but can anyone say hot chocolate? In today's fast paced world, the young generation wants a three-hour event and a way to tailgate before the event. Think about it.

Jeff, I applaud you first for printing Charles Everett’s letter and your response. I believe drag racing falls somewhere in between both your opinions about Niche Market. NASCAR events are live and do not get preempted no matter what. Indy Car has its problems since the cart split years ago. Drag racing in its current format will never get the press that other motorsports get.

Drag racing is not a TV sport; you have to be there to enjoy it. By the way, I watched the last two national events on ESPN3 and the replay on ESPN. It was great to watch NHRA as the follow the leader of Daytona was on Fox.

Enjoy NHRA for what it is and be thankful that we get to watch same day coverage and attend the events that are local.
