Check the speeds

Re: HANS devices, I think the sanctioning bodies should be looking at mph rather than ET as the criteria for requiring these safety items. S/G and up are running incredible speeds relative to their ETs...

Unsafe at any speed?

You guys are wrong ABOUT when head restraints are required. The time cut for Heritage Series is 7.60, which is Nostalgia Eliminator 1 and A/GAS.

The NHRA requires racers who clock 7.49 seconds or better in the quarter mile to wear a Head Restraint certified under SFI’s 38.1 specification. Neither Sanchez nor Hedlund’s cars were fast enough to require the drivers to wear one. In Charlotte this weekend, four of the classes competing are not required to use a Head and Neck Restraint.

As Dale Earnhardt’s fatal crash proved several years ago, you don’t have to be going fast to have a big problem. That’s why we say all racers should have head protection.

Protecting the race fans

“Fans unhurt after NHRA explosion” -- Too many of these lately.

This is just ridiculous. They (the NHRA) better do something SOON. Maybe breakaway bodies? Lots of ports and flaps on the body. Don't want to see ANYONE 'pay to get killed' at a race.

That third eye is there for a reason, Jim

Wow, your "Just Wondering" is getting kind of eerie. You wrote of your concern about a funny car body flying into the stands and there it happens just two days later.
