If I ruled the world, I would implement the following
#1) Slow The Nitro Cars Down...6:71, Single pump / Single Mag / No setback Blowers and NO MORE of those God-Awful FC Bodies...Welcome all years of bodies. Yes, combine Big Show FC's with Nostalgia FC's.
# 2) Back to 1320 Racing.
# 3) Fewer National Events. Stick with the Classic Venues, 1 event only with the exception of Pomona.
# 4) Think about bringing back the old divisional series as a replacement to the over abundance of National Events. Allowing smaller teams to figure into the points (without playoffs) system.
# 5) Carload Prices for spectators...them empty seats don't buy hot dogs.
Yes, I'm dreaming, I know. But that's my 2 cents worth.
Best wishes,
Dave Jackson
The wife and I (mid 50's) have attended many National events and when I look around I see the thousands of other middle aged people there. It is far and away too expensive and the NHRA isn't selling a product that the younger generations want to see.
From the bracket racing "stock" classes to the completely confusing comp eliminator classes, it is not fan friendly. The dragster/altered loaded "90" classes are more boring than watching the tractors that prep the lanes. Pro Stock Bike? Snooze. Funny Car? Over the top but unrecognizable as a car. Top Fuel? WOW! Too bad it costs millions to campaign the pro categories and the NHRA often can't get a 16-car field. Pro Stock made changes but not enough and again the NHRA can't fill the ladder.
Tickets should be 20-25 bucks. Fill the seats. Standing room only. Bring in drag radial cars. Bring in Street Outlaws. Put on a show the fans can relate to. Heads up, no break-out recognizable cars.
Cost keeps ’em out more than anything. We would bring along our kids or friends if it weren't for the price of the tickets.
My less than 200 words.

Basically, because the format’s changed since I got hooked in 1968 at 12 years old, here’s a list:
1. It’s not about many individuals and a collective show
2. It’s not driven by individual innovations and secrets, your trick must be available to all
3. Only wealthy need apply
4. Funny car is now a wedge with a canopy and stickers
5. Dragster whatever
6. Too automated in driving, from burnout through the run; safety deployment makes sense
7. It’s all attempted marketing of a youth to the youth
8. No longer a team of enthusiasts close to your level, now a young pretty face (maybe with money) and a dozen individual specialists
9. Expense not worth the outing
10. In a nutshell, who can identify or relate to what it’s become??
That’s just a start, there’s much, much more…
