Unlimited Class

Saturday’s qualifying was lead by Ben Schooler of Fredericksburg, VA in his 1990 turbo Mustang with a 4.764 @ 164.69. Ben experienced transmission issues and had to withdraw from competition. Bill Harris of Lorton, VA took the number 2 position recording a 4.767 @ 149.70 in his 98 Dodge Avenger. Cale Lawson of Blackstone, VA was 3rd with a 5.036 @ 154.60. Tim Johnson who was experiencing some mechanical issues all day but still managed to move into 4th running 5.738 @ 148.23. Tom Boles 66 Chevelle had issues getting off the starting line due to tire spin. Tim is from Weyers Cave, VA and Tom Boles hails from Philadelphia, PA. Bill Harris made it to the finals facing off against Tom Boles who got his traction issues solved and moved up through the pack.. Bill picked up the class win at the same time setting a new OSBA Unlimited ET record going 4.631 to Boles 5.077.

Sunday’s qualifying was led by Bill Harris in his Dodge Avenger taking the number 1 spot running 4.689 @ 154.02. With that run Bill clinched the 2008 Unlimited championship. Ben Schooler in the Mustang worked late into Saturday night to repair a broken transmission was number 2 qualifier with a 4.758 @ 165.36. Schooler also set a new mph record in OSBA Unlimited class with that run. Schooler went on to face the 68 Chevelle of Tom Boles in the finals. Schooler had his best ET of the event posting a 4.742 @ 158.33 while Boles got crossed up and had to lift coasting to a 9.996 @ 44.29 mph.

Congratulations to Marc “Tony” Chambliss and Keith Morris for winning the Springfield Custom Auto Machine sponsored Best Reaction Awards.  On Saturday Keith had a .007 light and Tony was best on Sunday with .013 off the tree.

 Ron Sturges, VP of Springfield Custom Auto Machine was on hand the entire weekend to give out the awards. Ron and his company were strong supporters of the OSBA in 2008.
