The Citrus Nationals is one of the oldest events on drag racing’s winter swing that includes a series of big-bucks bracket races and NHRA open shows in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. The Citrus Nationals was held at the freshly remodeled Palm Beach International Raceway (formerly Moroso Motorsports Park). It was an NHRA Sportsman open race and, aside from the usual bracket cars, four Alky class dragsters showed, three of them A/FD, plus about 25 each Super Comp and Super Gas cars, and about 25 Stock/Super Stock competitors.

Wendall Howe’s SS/AH came all the way from Canada.

The only record set at the meet was the track ET record for wheelstanders on Saturday afternoon when the corrected altitude was about 900 ft. Danny O'Day clocked an 8.64/155.15, the quickest ever on two wheels.

On Sunday, unfortunately, it rained at 11 a.m. and again before 2 p.m. but despite that the track crew got the track surface race ready AND they were able to give the fans two rounds of exhibition cars and the TAD’s.
