Heads Up Car Eliminators

After a couple of seasons of domination by the now sidelined Ratfink team of Andy Kirk, Nigel Payne and the Nimbus Motorsport Corvette are doing a very good job at keeping classic American tin (err fibreglass) at the head of the field. Although Andy Hone just got on pole with a 7.595 from his Ford Granada, Payne managed to run consistent very low 7.6s before running low ET of the class with a 7.591/178 in his final round win over Tim Garlick’s Cortina

Steve Pateman demonstrated there was hope for the rest of the Street Eliminator class, following on from a season chasing Splinter, as he ran just a hundreth behind Splinter’s 8.29 in qualifying and then scored low ET of each elimination round (with a 7.985/177 best in the first round) and put his nitrous mountain motored Calibra ahead of Splinter’s holeshot at the stripe in a tight 8.103/178 to the twin-turboed Cougar’s 8.229/181.

The wild and crazy world of Outlaw Anglia made one of it’s all too infrequent trips to Santa Pod Raceway and although Paul Wright had a considerable performance advantage over the rest of the field in his blown Alco Pop (a 7.798/180 being very impressive), Paul Hensher managed to steer around him in the final round in his Gas Attack Mopar motored Anglia with an 8.428/158 being a lot straighter than Wright’s wild 8.907/67.
