EXTREEME DRAG RADIAL

Considering Manny Figueroa didn’t have his engine in his fast Mustang 'till Friday night, and then fired it early Saturday morning, he performed extremely well. Not quite well enough though, as he met up with arch-rival Roger Holder from Bakersfield in his #1 Extreeme Nova from ‘07 in the final. The bright Orange 1970 Nova, after setting Low ET during qualifying at 7.734, didn’t equal that in the final but still came up with the win at 8.030/180.91, barely defeating Manny’s 8.093 at172.83 mph. Talk about tight racing!

HOT STREET

All season long Dan Bott 2 in the AMP Ford Mustang has been challenged  by El Paso, Texas, racer Adrian Duran. It came down to these top competitors in this Ford Mustang-dominated class again, with young Dan leaving first and stayin there, at 8.497/160.23 to Duran’s very close 8.502/154.09. The low ET qualifier Anthony Valentino at a fine 8.390 was disqualified when starter Scott Joines saw a crew member touching the wing on a burnout which is against the NHRA safety rule. (Sorry guys, I have the photo proof.)

SUPER STREET

This looked like an old Pro Gas race at LACR or Famoso with Paul Wiechmann in his ‘85 Olds Ciera vs. Doug Crumlich’s Corvette. Both of these guys are killers on the tree, and Crumlich was out first at (.030 RT) to Wiechmann’s (.044RT) but Doug ran a 8.462 (on a 8.60 index) so the winner was Wiechmann’s trusty Olds at 8.606, 143 mph.

LIMITED STREET

Gary Brandt has been the man in Limited all season long, and after qualifying, it was his Mustang at No. 1 with a 9.005, with Top Speed too at 165.50 mph.  In the final he faced off with old rival Mike Saiki, who is now driving his ‘68 Camaro instead of the old Corvette he ran for years. There were problems staging for Brandt so it was Sakai all the way at 9.194, 155.54 mph to a much quicker Gary Brandt at 9.048, 154.83 mph.
