Antron Brown drove Mike Ashley’s Matco Tools dragster to his 19th overall career professional category win and his third driving a Top Fuel car with a win at Phoenix over veteran racer Brandon Bernstein. That win put his team in the points lead in the Top Fuel category. Brown benefited from the abilities of his crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald. Brown qualified in the third slot with a 3.830. The Matco team was forced to change motors for the second round race with Morgan Lucas after exploding his motor in a first round victory.

In the semifinals, Brown got his second career win over defending World Champ Tony Schumacher driving the Rick Green-tuned U.S. Army dragster.  The duo of Corradi and Oswald tuned Brown’s dragster to a race best ET of 3.819 at 315.34 to hold off Schumacher’s best effort of eliminations, a 3 .852 at 313.29.

In the finals Brown left on Bernstein and was never challenged, recording a lap of 3.846 at 310.63 while in the other lane Bernstein struck the tires early, shut off and coasted to the turnoff.  With the victory, Brown, who raced Pro Stock Motorcycle from 1998 until 2007, moved into the Top Fuel points lead for the first time in his racing career, 42 markers in front of Bernstein in the NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel standings.
