Sam Berardi’s ’57 Coupe competed in the Heavy Street class and stood the “Shoebox” ’57 Chevy on the bumper nearly every lap.

The Big Bang

In 10-5 eliminations Josh McClelland, racing Bill Futch, got out of control and slammed into the left guardwall from the right lane. The impact was pretty severe as you can see from the photo of the guard wall. He actually moved the wall!

The Camaro was lifted off of the track after McClelland had been removed and then he was airlifted to the local hospital.

As you can see the car was probably a complete write-off, but thanks to the safety specs rigidly enforced in drag racing today, according to reports the driver got away with a couple of broken ribs and other minor injuries.
