Texas racers dominate Super Classes

The Super Comp winner, Tommy Phillips of Forney, Texas, waded through the 72-car field to earn the win. He defeated Al Kenny Kingston, Ont., Canada, in the final.  That victory gave Phillips three wins in the last two NHRA national events he attended. He won the Super Comp and Super Gas  titles last week at the Jegs Cajun SPORTSnationals. Kenny went red by .002 in the finals while Phillips ran an 8.909 with a .009 light.

Kemp, Texas’s David Jones beat Florida racer Steve Cohen in the Wally round of Super Gas on a double-breakout finale. Jones ran a 9.877/161.44 to beat Cohen’s losing 9.874/164.05.

Craig Abbott of Strawn, Texas, made it a clean sweep for the Lone Star State racers, grabbing the Super Street win over Greg Parson of Whitehouse, Texas.
