The Pro Mod first round went off at just about 1:00 p.m. The track was excellent but many of the drivers and cars had issues leaving on time or hooking up. There was only one real serious race in the first round and that was between Burton Auxier’s nitrous powered Camaro and the blower car driven by Californian Danny Rowe. Auxier cut a  .040 light, which made his slower 6.051/234.78 hold up against Rowe’s .097 RT even though Rowe ran a very respectable and much quicker 6.012/240.85.

Burgess got a bye because Stivers had no car to drive. Raymond Commisso oiled the track on the burnout and was shut off. Joe Baker from Milton, FL, drove his blown '68 Camaro to the only five-second run in the first round using a 5.947 241.93 to bury Kirk Wilmes,  

The second round of Eliminations was more of the same. Auxier got his second consecutive holeshot win for the Al-Anabi crew when he used a .020 light and a 6.015/236 lap to hold off Payne’s .089 RT despite a quicker 6.004/238.76 lap.
