Mike Couch wheels one of the quickest entries in the Flathead Meltdown with his show quality blown '32 roadster, having ripped off low 13s from the 265ci flattie with a Weiand blower on top. Couch is the hot favourite to get close to (if not lower) the current 12.7 second class record set by Jim Turnbull’s similarly perfect '32 roadster three years ago.

Odgie’s Shedster is at the other end of the scale from Couch’s roadster, being largely handbuilt on a minuscule budget under a plastic awning pretty much from scratch (including some unique features like the handbrake incorporating a handle from some garden shears). After a somewhat eventful trip down to Stratford from ‘Oop North (and failing to dodge the heavy rain showers on the way), Odgie handed over driving duties to Miss P who was obviously having a blast at ringing low 20s out of the 71ci 35hp motor.

The Wild Bunch were out in force at the Nostalgia Nationals, hardly a surprise given their role as the standard bearers for nostalgia drag racing in the UK. What could be better for a father and son to be doing on a sunny Saturday afternoon than pulling sky high wheelies alongside each other in their slingshot rails? Chris Hartnell (near lane) and son Mark (far lane) were enjoying the sunshine to the maximum.
