QUICK STREET

LVMS has just been Chris Biggerstaff’s best place to race. The Rosamond, CaLif., veteran was the #1 qualifier and then ran fantastic during all his eliminations runs running reaction times of a perfect 0.000 to a worst of .023. But in the final both he and current champion Michael Hadrath and his Las Vegas-based Vega both broke out but Biggerstaff ran a 9.524/141.32 to Hadrath’s quicker 9.517/144.43. Biggerstaff ran that perfect RT in the final too!

During a PSCA event you know that Mike Nordahl “The Machine” (above) and his trusty 1975 Vega is going to be involved in a final somewhere. The number #1 qualifier in Mean Street did just that by facing off with Las Vegan Todd Ishibashi who has won his fair share at the Strip too. Both drivers broke out with the cooler night air as the 10.60 was hard to hit with Nordahl’s 10.583, 128.84 mph was closer than Todd’s 10.530. (Tim Marshall photo)

One of the largest fields this weekend was Open Comp with a total of 30 racers on the LVMS track. This dial-your-own-index class is extremely popular and packed with excellent racers. Irvine’s Doug Crumlich and his very consistent black Corvette (below) was the #1 qualifier but was defeated by Shawn Bevers’ little Ford Ranger truck in the third round of when Doug caught a rare red liGHT start. Bevers went on the be crowned the Open Comp champ with his Ford Ranger at a 9.521, 140.58 mph when Dan Maricano broke with his Mustang that usually runs in Mustang Madness. (Tim Marshall photo)
