In the first semifinal pairing Bateman laid down a 5.88 to beat out Mark Sanders, who wounded his chariot and slowed on the top end.

Then it got interesting with Boychuk getting a holeshot win over the mighty Austin, whose 5.86 was not enough for Tim's 5.90 and quicker reaction. This set up a great final between the current king of NFC and the latest challenger to that throne.

The NWBBFC's started off with the husband and wife match up with Randy getting off the line quicker than Kim and getting a quick ride to the doghouse and the semifinals. The “Tiki Warrior” got real loose off the line, which meant Huegli gave up the semi spot to Leon Aines. Royce Taylor took out Shane Harter and Howland got a single when Don Harter couldn't make the show.

Randy Parker (above) continued his charge to the finals in the “Photo Op” Datsun Z-bodied ride by beating Leon Aines, and Howland got another single as Taylor could no longer continue.

The Canadian counterparts, the IBAA boys, started with the number one qualifier getting out of shape and going down to Mattias Hane's Mustang. The next pair was two gorgeous Camaros with Jason Bussey losing to the huge burnout king and fan favorite Ron Sekura.  Eddy Plaizier took out Steckler's Corvette and Cal Tebb's stunning GTO put a beating on Darrell Webb's wild Nova.

Sekura continued to lay down the huge burnouts all the way to the final, taking out Tebb in the semi's, and his opponent would be Mattias Hane, who had an easy win over Plaizier.

The Nitro Funny Car final was a classic, as they were pretty much side by side all the way down with the Roland Leong-tuned “rookie”, Tim Boychuk hitting the stripe first with a 5.83 at 247 mph, which was enough to beat out another relative rookie in this class, Garrett Bateman, who posted a 5.88. Another trophy to add to the growing collection for the IHRA Top Fuel race winner, and a pretty successful debut for the car.
