FIA Pro Stock Car

Richard ‘Nixxon’ Sundblom was the sole Finn to make the Swede dominated field, with a 6.801 being the best of the rest behind Alund. A first round victory over Jan Palmquist set up what would prove to be a dramatic final four match against Michael Malmgren. Malmgren was clearly staged off centre and hooked quite dramatically to the left and crossed the centerline shortly after 100 feet, whether this triggered what happened next is something for conjecture, but with Malmgren slowing, Sundblom lost control of his Cobalt, spearing across into the right hand lane and into the wall in front of Malmgren. Remarkably, the team had Sundblom’s car back in working order before the final but were understandably DNQ’d for the lane boundary violations.

Jimmy Alund crushed the rest of the FIA Pro Stock field yet again in Alastaro. The writing was on the wall after the first qualifying session on Friday, when the rest of the ten car field was struggling to dip into the sixes, Alund produced a seemingly effortless 6.809.327.03 km/h (lowered to a 6.767 in the next session), and rubbed salt into the wounds with a perfect RT. In eliminations, Alund had only one competitive race when Tommy Leindahl was dispatched with a 6.771/328.73 km/h in the first round. Magnus Hansson couldn’t make the call for the semis, so Alund ran a 6.786/328.43 km/h. Then both drivers from the lower half of the ladder were disqualified in their semifinal giving Alund another unopposed run in the final, and a 6.755/330.76 km/h just served to underline his dominance with low ET and top speed of the event.
