Top Fuel Results

Veteran IHRA Top Fuel racer Bobby Lagana came to PBIR for the first IHRA Nitro Jam of the 2010 season and took a  $10,500 check each night as the “winner” of the Top Fuel competition. There were just four cars in the Top Fuel class at Palm Beach International Raceway. They ran a series of races on Friday and Saturday night to determine the event “winner.” Lagana was declared the Top Fuel class winner based upon the fact that he won both of his races in Friday and Saturday night and had Low ET each time.

Lagana opened the show with a 4.744/302.75 trouncing of former IHRA World Champ Spencer Massey, who returned to IHRA when his NHRA ride with Don Prudhomme went away due to lack of a sponsor. Massey’s tuner, Paul Smith, would struggle all weekend trying to get Massey down the PBIR track in the Mitch King-owned Top Fueler.

Another former IHRA World Champ, Bruce Litton, ran the best number of the weekend with a 4.615/321.73 to take out defending IHRA World Champ Del Cox in the Saturday Top Fuel consi race.

The four Top Fuel cars on hand raced four times each over the two days.  The second round on Friday night matched up Cox and Massey and neither made a respectable pass. They launched well but then overpowered the track, pedaled it, and shut off. Lagana then shut down Litton in the money run with another good 4..700/305.63 while Litton smoked the tires and lifted.
