Veteran racer Scialpi finally got his combination together in round two with a 6.493/215.62 as he upset the Vogt Performance Corvette of the Vogt Brothers, who clocked a close but losing 6.644/214.25. Dan Vogt will be a familiar face around LVMS and PSCA this year as he bought a home in the Vegas area, so he can run here more often.

When Bluebaugh once again had tire shake and wisely clicked off the 780-inch big block Monte Carlo, Hairston was not to be denied with another stellar pass of 6.299 at 229.98 mph.

In a very scary incident, Jim Knight left on Giuseppe Gentile and his Turbo People Mustang and its looked like it was all over for the 2008 Cobra, until Knight got out of the groove and crossed the track, narrowly missed the Mustang, and put a dent in his immaculate Corvette, the LVMS guardrail and his pride. Knight was okay, thanks to all the safety features required by both LVMS and PSCA. Oh yeah, Gentile proved he was really ready with an extremely fine pass of 6.264 at 231.36 mph!

Scialpi got out first in the Ford vs Chevy match up with Gentile only to get completely out of shape. The wise veteran racer shut it off, handing Gentile’s Stang the win. On an odd lot single, Hairston did not hold back one bit and his 6.330 at 230.57 mph got him lane choice for the final round.

Even though Gentile left a hair too soon (-.024 RT) against Hairston, it appeared to be the closest race of the day as Hairston once again guided his 2007 GTO to a 6.304 at 233.52 mph to back up the speed record again. Gentile guided his white Cobra Stang to a 6.434 at 223.06 mph.

OUTLAW 10.5

Outlaw 10.5 is always an exciting class and even though only six of the cars showed up at the Ford Record Breaker/ Nitro Blast Off, they were second to none.

Doug Sikora and his Jason Pettis-tuned 2000 Mustang out of Barstow, Calif., was the other outstanding car in the class, qualifying at 6.734/206.61.

Gary and John Ross with the “Hillbilly” Grand Am and Ron Weems, both sporting Outlaw Racing Engines, were next at 7.07 and 7.13 respectively. Rich Zehring from San Jose painted his new Grand Am but it did not help his performance as he and Johnny Coleman with his awesome Camaro rounded out the field.
