Clint Hairston, who set the MPH during qualifying, stepped it up a notch in first round competition against a tough Dave Dedrickson, and laid down the quickest pass in PSCA history, a 6.237/234.49 over Dedrickson’s 6.882/198.64.

Mihovetz could not get the potent Mustang to fire, giving Scialpi’s blown 1957 Chevy a free pass into round two. Canadian Vogt, who cleaned house at the big November Street Car Super Nationals, finally got his potent nitrous-injected Vette to go down the LVMS Strip at 6.890/213.03 in his match up with Scott Oskas’s show-quality 2009 Mustang. Oskas had major tire shake and shut off way early at 8.053 and 130.49 mph.

Kelly Bluebaugh

Thyr got the award for best Pro Street leave with a .004 RT over Arizona’s Kelly Bluebaugh, but then both racers ran into some handling difficulties, with veteran driver Bluebaugh taking the win light with a 6.901 at 203.55 mph to Thyr’s close 7.04.

Maggio could not make the call in time, so Phoenix’s Jim Knight in his awesome red 1963 Corvette received a bye run into round two. In the last race of round one both drivers were extremely late on the starting line but Gentile’s Sun Valley, Calif., Stang laid down an extremely good pass of 6.335 at 231.16 mph to Syvertson’s 6.968/212.06
