MUSTANG MADDNESS

Speaking of Mustang Maddness, the #2 guy last year, Daniel Marciano of Alta Loma, Calif., faced Paul Wolfe in that same ‘67 Mustang and picked up the win in a very close one 10.365, 131.09 mph over Wolfe’s 10.556, 124.41 mph for this show piece. Hey, two runner-ups are better than none.

OPEN COMP

Sharing the honors with Bracket #1 as one of the larger classes in PSCA, Open Comp had 29 hardcore entries for the first event of 2010. Local racer Ty Ishibashi led the reaction time wars for #1 with a perfect light. It was the Lucas-backed Chevelle of Ron DeHoop of Artesia, Calif., in the final against one tough customer in Shawn Bevers and his Chevy-powered Ford Courier pick up. DeHoop cut a fantastic light (.007 RT) and that’s all it took as he ran 10.644/110.50 m for his first trophy of 2010. Bevers’ newly painted bright orange ride was runner up at 9.578, 138.43 mph.

STREET CHALLENGE

Steve Fulgham did not have his usual ride at this event, but did drive Mark Washington’s 1973 Corvette with that big #1 on its side for Mark this weekend. All the honors went to Anthony Smith and his 1993 LX Coupe, though, at 10.185 for #1 qualifier and Low ET of the class, coupled up to a fine 133.45 mph for Top Speed.

Veteran driver Fulgham cut a good light and got the win at a 10.569, 132.50 mph to Smith’s 10.774/133.45.
