In Alcohol Funny car, for the first time in a long time 2009 champ Frank Manzo did not win the event. That in itself is big news as Manzo’s Al-Anabi Monte Carlo lost to Todd Veney in the semis with a tire shaking 5.801 to Veney’s better 5.627.

Veney, driving the “Follow a Dream” Monte Carlo of Jay Blake went on to beat the all-white Camaro of John Anderika in the finals with an off pace 5.785 and a uncharacteristic 0.121 light. Veney had the pedal to the metal and passed Anderika at the 1,000-foot mark as Anderika slowed to a 5.908, which was way off his earlier 5.68 he posted in the second round defeating the Mustang of Tom Carter.
