On Saturday there are many extracurricular events. The entire Firebird staff dress up in costumes as do many of the competitors when not in their racecars. Pit area trick or treating, hayrides, a children's costume contest, kids games, and after dark the adult costume contest (that at times has gotten very interesting, to say the least.)

The one that brings in the fans is the Saturday night Firebird Air Show, which traditionally been one of the wildest wheel standing completions ever held. The grandstands are packed each and every year this event takes place.

One last special thing is that the YNOT Racing team, headed by Top Alcohol Dragster powerhouse Jim Whiteley and his family, are partnering with Racers for Christ to either raffle off or auction off one of the team’s potent Top Dragsters with the proceeds going to RFC. Go to the website at www.teamrfc.org for more information.

In Top Gun Open Wheel after the final qualifying runs were made the sixteen quickest cars ranged from the bump time of 7.59 seconds held by Sean Page in the Boise Muffler dragster up to Paul Snell from Sandy, Utah, in his dragster on the pole with a great 6.88/196.42 blast.

As the eliminations kicked off there were many upsets in opening rounds. One of these who profited from this was Dick Vandermeer from Nampa, Idaho, who worked his way from the bottom of the field to meet up with Shane Molinari in the B&M Figg Speed blown dragster who made his way to the finals from the number three position. In the final round it was Vandermeer who took the win over a red lighting Molinari and ran a 7.58 on a 7.58 dial-in for the win in Open Wheel.
