Racing under the guidance of Funny Car vet Chuck Worsham, Jeremy Hanger's day was off to a bad start, almost putting his potent Green Studebaker on its roof during qualifying. Things started to turn around though, as he got a free pass when David Dedrickson’s Tran Am lost fire on the burnout. Hanger clicked it early, saving parts at 7.708, 131.41 mph.

Clint Hairston’s new record holding GTO could not find the right combination this weekend. Clint had broken his ankle earlier that week and although he was cleared to drive, it was a bad omen. Despite getting the jump on Mike Maggio off the starting line, mechanical trouble cost Hairston the win.

In the second round, Giuseppe Gentile and his Turbo People Mustang cranked out another fine pass of 6.331@225.75 mph to end the day for the turquoise '57 of John Scialpi. Ed Thornton with his “Shane T” tuned turbo Corvette put away rookie driver Nicole Lyons next with a 6.954 @ 213.27 mph over the pretty lady's shut off 8.941 @ 123.81 mph.

John Mihovetz got another bye run with a decent pass of 6.511 @ 226.96 mph. When it was his turn at the line, Jeremy Hanger lost traction instantly with his potent green Studie and Mike Maggio advanced to the semis at 6.474, 219.79 mph.
