WILD STREET

There was very little doubt who the man was in Wild Street was as David Schwarz came to this race loaded and ready and laid down the fastest times ever in the class. In the final he came up against one of the tough customers from Idaho City, ID, in Jeff Young and did not miss a beat with an incredible 7.631/188.36 over an 8.075/176.03 mph for Young’s Camaro. Now David’s Turbo Mustang holds both ends of the Mickey Thompson Tires Wild Street record at 7.631 and 188.49 mph.

LIMITED STREET

Mark Washington is just one of those guys that wins and wins in just about everything he drives. Limited Street was no different as he first set the Low ET qualifying time at 8.390, while Las Vegas resident Dana Westover and his turbo Toyota Supra cranked it up and posted the highest MPH in qualifying.

In the final round it was Washington in the John Field Racing Mustang versus Levi Hanna’s Chevy-powered ‘Stang. It was definitely the best heads-up final of the day as Washington ran a strong 8.368/164.33 over a very game Hanna at 8.509. Washington set the new Limited ET record (8.344) as Hanna raised the MPH Record (164.43) .

STREET CHALLENGE

Steve Fullgham took over Mark Washington’s old ride (Dirty Ronnie’s ‘73 yellow Vette) and it has does nothing but win or runner up. In the finale it was a very close race with Fullgham taking a win with a 9.958/142.19 to Anthony Smith’s 9.997/140.72.

SUPER STREET (8.60 index)

Veteran bracket racer Paul Weichman in his ‘85 Olds Cutlass set right on during the three qualifying sessions at a fine 8.601/155.70 mph. Another Olds Cutlass with Randy Kersey at the wheel was the man this day, though, as he raced fellow Super Comp racer Tim Daniel and his ‘91 Beretta in the final. It was another very tight race as they left together off the line with Kersey getting the win at 8.661/154.88 over Simi Valley’s Daniel at 8.673/156.35 mph. There were 18 Super Street cars for this race.

QUICK STREET (9.60 index)

After setting the pace at 9.604, 140.17 Chino resident Mike Gitmed and his ‘72 Chevelle were not around for the final here. Here he was again, that 68-year-old Dan McDavitt who restores classic cars in Lake Havisu, AZ, against newcomer Bryan Strange in his Colorado Springs, Colorado-based Vega. The ol’ man did it again, leaving on another racer and running a 9.633 at 131.90 mph to narrowly defeat Strange’s quicker 9.610/140.56.
