MEAN STREET (10.60 index)

After Joe Bennett ran a perfect 10.600 during qualifying, it came down to two of the PSCA’s finest racers in Mike Nordahl and Ron DeHoop. “The Machine” Nordahl and his black Vega from Fontana, CA, got the win with a 10.610 at118.87 mph, when DeHoop left before the tree was activated..

OPEN COMP

Twenty-eight cars were on hand for the Goodyear Racing Tires Open Comp class where just everything and anything can run on their selected dial in. Ron DeHoop’s Lucas Oil Chevelle was the #2 qualifier and he was not going home empty handed as he ran 10.608/119.20 to narrowly defeat Jordan Jahnke’s 1966 Nova in the final.

MUSTANG MADDNESS

Twenty-eight Ford Mustangs of all sizes and years were on hand too, as Simi Valley’s Don Hale in his ‘98 Cobra led time trials for the class. In the final the immaculate ‘67 Mustang of Paul Wolfe out of the Hot Rod Performance Shop left first and got the win light at 10.554/118.53 over a 14.039/94.91 for Terry Anderson’s trusty ‘73 model.

BRACKET 1

A total of 55 cars competed in Bracket 1. Jake Tynes from Placentia, CA, in his ‘99 Camaro Z28 was the closest to his dial in at 14.031 (14.03). In the final it was the duck tape special of Riverside’s Robert Strong just edging out new lady driver Katie Takeshira in one of Tom Bayer’s Lucas Rent-a-Dragsters. Tom is a pretty good teacher though, as Strong won the final at 10.753/125.24 over a very game 8.785/154.02 for Katie.

TROPHY CLASS

Trophy class entries totaled 37 at the Fontana track. Steve Martinez was the closest to his dial in at a 13.07 in his Imperial, CA-based ‘91 Mustang. Broc Broaddus of the racing Broaddus family brought out his 2000 Firebird and took home the trophy for this class over Charles Voglum’s Camaro.
