In times of tragedy, racers come together like few other communities. Nowhere was this in better evidence than the PSCA’s Racin’ 4 Jason Nationals held at The Strip at Las Vegas. The race was named in memory of Jason Dubs, the former starter at The Strip who passed away earlier this year.

Not even extremely heavy wind conditions could damper the action on the track. While many of us still had our friend Jason Dubs still on our minds and in our hearts, the race was just as he would have liked to see with spectacular times and great results.

How about Mike Maggio’s immaculate new Don Larson-built Camaro running an unheard of 6.095 at 238.72 mph or Rick Snavely’s ride, the Bothwell/Garrett turbo Stang, at 6.703/219.50!

Clint Hairston led the way during the three rounds of qualifying as he put the Hairston family’s orange GTO solidly into the field at a strong 6.277/231.72 for the top spot. Randy Walker and his top notch crew including veteran North Carolinian Charles Carpenter right behind at 6.307/219.65 with his primered El Camino. Giuseppe Gentile put the Turbo People Mustang in next with an equally fine 6.30 coupled up to a strong top end speed of 233.50 mph. Veteran drag racer John Scialpi made his presence known by laying down an easy 6.363 at 222.99 mph.

The Lucas-backed turbo Mustang of John Mihovetz was #5 at 6.374, 231.867 mph. A brand new engine combination for Kelly Bluebaugh and Deborah Woodard looked fine at 6.400, 219.54 mph at number six. After a couple of aborted passes in the brand new Camaro, Mike Maggio finally got the immaculate piece down the track at 6.421/227.15 and lucky number seven. Canadian Dan Vogt was next at an easy 6.495, only 213.10 mph. Fellow Canadian Perry Thor put his pretty bright blue Camaro into the field at #9 with a 6.613/210.31.
