Doing the TOPMA Texas Two-Step

The Texas Outlaw Pro Mod Association had two events in July, one at Texas Raceway in Kennedale and the following day at North Star Dragway in Denton, Texas. The series races to the eighth mile.

FRIDAY at Texas Raceway

TOPMA rolled into Texas Raceway for its July race with fourteen cars trying to get into the eight-car field.

Qualifying started off with a heat index of 105 and track temperatures that matched as well, and ended with an air temperature of 84 when the race was called because of curfew.

Frankie Taylor debuted his new Jeffers Pro Cars Corvette with a departure from his normal bright colorful paint scheme to solid black paint, something about saving weight.

Two wild Qualifying sessions saw a fuel fire from Chuck Nuytten (Chuck and the car are OK) and Ken Thomas had a small fire on top end and a clutch explosion but was able to get it repaired.

Gene Hector and Doug Riesterer were not able to make the call due to breakage. This allowed Eric Clark and Michelle Wilson to get into the eight-car field.

The race was called when the race hit the midnight curfew time after two oil spills occurred at 11:30 during the Test n Tune. They could not get cleaned up in time despite a valiant effort by the TXR track crew to clean them up.
