Svensson and Salakari’s incrementals in Top Fuel were pretty impressive, but Per Bengtsson was the one that really rattled out a serious number at the quarter from the supercharged parallel twin Bentec Beast. After a less than satisfactory first part of the run it hooked up to a 6.473 that represents the quickest Super Twin pass in Europe since Anders ‘Charley’ Karling set the record at 6.458 back in 2004. Subsequent attempts to improve saw the bike overpower the track, one of which led to a semi final exit at the hands of Olstad. |
Pro Stock Bike eliminations saw a few surprise exits, not least being the holeshot victory that Gabriella Nikolovska threw on Dave Beck, and the theme carried all the way through to the final round. After his PAF Suzuki lost fire off the startline, Fredrik Fredlund adopted a pose that had disappointment written all over it, however, a few seconds later he’d realized that opponent Ulf Ögge had thrown away a 7.381 with a redlight and the Sunoco win was his. It was difficult to tell who was more embarrassed afterwards, but Fredlund had his first event win of 2010 to celebrate and Ögge’s runner-up spot has secured his second championship in a row, just requiring scrutineering points at the Euro Finals to seal the deal.
Right: Low qualifier for the second event in his rookie season, Jesper Thiel clocked a 7.185/184 to head a trio in the 7.1s with Ögge (7.192/184) and Anders Abrahamsson (7.195/187).
Thiel looked to be a reasonable bet for his first win until Fredlund did him with a holeshot in the semis, but Thiel is surely a win waiting to happen.
