In what was the professional class’s race of the weekend, Green left on the veteran Lechtenberg parlaying a .092 reaction time advantage with a 5.823/254.76 lap to get the win over Lechtenberg, who, in a losing effort, charged to a 5.800 at 258.47 – the fastest Top Fuel speed recorded at a Goodguys event in the Eastern Time zone.

Green held off Lechtenberg’s top end charge and got to the finish line first by a miniscule two ten-thousandths of a second.

The win was the first for Frank Ousley as a car owner after a two-year effort the get the car ready to race.

AA FUNNY CAR

Just four teams showed at Norwalk for the Nostalgia Funny Car Action but they were four of the best. Grand Blanc, Michigan’s Shawn Bowen and his “Violator” ’77 Firebird, who are currently second in the DRO/Lucas Oil AA/FC Challenge national championship points, fired a shot across the bow to the rest of the nation’s vintage floppers indicating that he and his team mean business. Bowen, who is a former NHRA Division 3 National Champion and three-time NHRA national event winner in Alcohol Dragster, ran Low ET of the meet right off the trailer with a 5.929 at 242.50 on Friday afternoon.
