AA FUEL DRAGSTER

There were nine cars in attendance vying for the eight spots that made up the Top Fuel class at this race. When the race began on Sunday, seven AA/FD’s answered the call to the staging lanes. Leading the charge was Troy Green driving the sleek dragster owned by Frank and Debra Ousley (with a tune up from Texas-based legend Dale Emery). The team had crashed the car at the Goodguys Indy race but it had been repaired and showed no ill effects as Green shoed the digger to new Norwalk track records for AA/FD. The team posted a 5.775 at 248.11 mph blast in a first round win over the Steve Boggs tuned rail driven by New Yorker Tony Bartone. The previous record for a front engine Top Fuel dragster at Norwalk was a 5.94 recorded in 2001.

Continuing his quest for victory, Green then dispatched Ernest McClain’s Chevy fueler with a 5.932 at 231.99 in the semis, which sent him to the finals against the one of Midwest’s quickest and fastest fuelers. His final round competition would be none other than two-time Goodguys event champion and #1 qualifier at Norwalk, “Radar” Roger Lechtenberg driving Dale Suhr’s “Orange Crate” machine.
