Even though noise problems prevented the PSCA from holding its annual West Coast Shootout at its usual home at the famous Autoclub Raceway in Fontana, that didn’t stop them from putting on a truly kickass show in Sin City. Intense heat blanketed the LVMS track, but that wasn’t enough to prevent some fantastic performances, such as Clint Hairston’s searing 241 mph pass. Proving that wasn’t a fluke, Hairston backed it up with a pair of 6.18 ETs.

They couldn’t quite back up what was almost a record, but Clint, Jake, and Jim Hairston certainly had their 2007 GTO flying. During qualifying Saturday, the 377 cubic inch Twin Turbo was loaded for bear, punching out a 6.1888 @ 237.42 mph for the top spot. The ‘08 Cobra Mustang of Giuseppe Gentile was close behind at a fine 6.355 @ 229.82 mph, while cagey veteran John Scialpi put his Kenny Scialpi tuned ‘57 Bel Air into the show with a 6.457 run at only 199.20 mph.

Making his first appearance on the PSCA scene was Marysville, WA NHRA Comp racer Mark Wolfe and his wife, with their ‘95 Thunderbird shooting out huge flames and cutting times of 6.725, 214.52 for number four. Lancaster, CA veteran Mack Moffat had his Corvette running decent numbers, with his Powerguide and blown Hemi setup putting out 6.842 @ 207.30 mph. Tony Marino and his look-a-like 1957 Belair (twin to John Scialpi’s ride) looked strong with a 6.886 @ 205.19 mph for the sixth spot. Mike Bowman is finally getting the power to the ground with his turbo 540 GM powered ‘68 Chevelle at 6.908 @ 217.70 mph.
