Xtreme Street

Bob Kurgan annihilated the CFE Xtreme Street record in qualifying by running a 7.72, the quickest pass in the history of the class, but it was Phil Smith who ran the fastest mph – 187. Going into this event, it was a tight race in points for the championship, with Jaime Stanton, Kurgan and Bill Trovato all within striking distance of the championship, but in a strange turn of events, those heavy hitters were all knocked out of competition in the early rounds.

It was all about Phil Smith and Enzo Pecchini in X/S at Indy. After taking down Tim Donathen in the first round with an 8.02, then David Hatnick with an 8.05, and a bye into the final meant he'd race Smith for all the Indy marbles. When the tree dropped, a fireball burst from Smith's windshield causing him to abort, which allowed Pecchini to get the victory.
