The supercharged missile of Southern Californian Mike Maggio led the field going into Saturday’s final round of qualifying. Driving his supercharged 70-1/2 Camaro backed by Magco Drilling he had recorded a 5.915 ET at 249.39 mph for the number-one spot. Maggio and his car have been consistently both the quickest and most consistent in winning the PSCA/Hughes Performance Pro Street Championship powered by his blown 541 cubic-inch BAE Hemi.

As the Pro Street class lined up in the staging lanes for the final qualifying session on Saturday afternoon, the diversity of engines and power-adders was evident. Both Mike Maggio and Marc Meadors had superchargers; Dominican racer, Jose Gonzalez, and U.S. based Troy Coughlin had turbocharged engine combinations; many-time Pro Mod World Champion Shannon Jenkins was using EFI and Speedtech nitrous. Those were the quickest five at LVMS.

After the fourth and final Pro Street session only two racers in the top five going into the session would improve on their previous times.  Goodguys President Marc Meadors and his ’69 Camaro improved to a 5.924 ET at 244.96 mph, but was still in second position behind Maggio’s 5.915/249.39 blast from a previous qualifying session.

The other team that improved in the fast five was Troy Coughlin driving his JEGS-backed turbocharged ’68 Camaro, who improved into the fives with a 5.988 picking up top speed at 255.82 mph. Coughlin switched from a clutch/manual trans to a torque converter automatic trans for this event.
