Bubba Stanton went “coning” in qualifying.

In a David-versus-Goliath scenario, independent drag racer Joey Martin played the role of David to the combined Al-Anabi team’s Goliath. Driving a supercharged Hemi-powered chopped 1955 Nomad that he built in his own shop, Martin took the trophy and the cash from a field of the quickest and fastest eighth-mile racers on the planet.

Aaron Wells qualified on the bump at his first ADRL race of the season.

The number one and two qualifiers met in the finals of Pro Extreme. Martin cruised through his side of the ladder to set up a final round match-up with multi-time winner Jason Hamstra. That race saw Martin leave on Hamstra by a little more than a hundredth of a second with a .037 RT to Hamstra’s .049 effort. Hamstra looked like he might have something for Martin but his car slowed to a 3.767 at just 168.66 mph while Martin charged to the finish line and his first ever ADRL win with a 3.755/200.20 effort in the “Lowmad.” His winning run was his worst ET and slowest speed of Eliminations.

Although the Pro Extreme class had only 17 qualifiers for the 16-car field it was a very impressive qualified field. Oklahoma racer Aaron Wells who is tuned by Darren Mayer on the “bump” with a respectable 3.912 for his first time out with a new car this year. The only driver not to qualify was California racer Bret Williamson who DNQ’d despite a best effort of 3.931/195.48
