PRO STREET

One of the largest fields ever (21) assembled at The Strip and Mike Maggio started off early by qualifying with a 6.001, with Marc Meadors in the “Pure Hell” ’69 Camaro following with a stout 6.09.

Round one found several competitors unable to answer the call and singles were evident in seven of the 10 first rounds although Maggio backed up his record with a 6.017.

Round 2 found the 2010 Camaro of Maggio setting another mark with 6.000 at 240.42. Guisspe Gentile ran into problems with severe tire shake and actually had the passenger door fall off at half track. This gave the pass to Jay Allsworth from Mesa, Ariz., in his 1938 coupe. Sean Renteria towed in from Northern California only to have problems against John Mihovetz from Ontario.

The quarterfinals found Meadows paired with Allswoth and Scialpi against Maggio. The Camaro of Meadows staged first and Allsworth failed to stage and was awarded the red light.

In the contest between Maggio and Scialpi, after a last minute lane change, John Scialpi had trouble waiting for the green while Mike Maggio ran another 6.0.
