The first round of Eliminations on Saturday night saw several drivers, including pre-race favorite Burgess, whose turbocharged ‘Vette had both Top Speed and Low ET for Pro Mods, not able to stage for eliminations due to oil pressure issues. The supercharged ‘Vette driven Scott Ray also had no oil pressure after the burnout.

Also, Chip King driving his turbo Daytona and Canada’s Kenny Lang both were unable to stage in the first round which meant half the field got a first-round single.

Pete Farber’s supercharged Daytona made one of his best showings of the season, going to the second round

In second round action on Sunday, with the weather getting hot and muggy as it is likely to be in Houston at this time of year, the nitrous oxide-injected teams started to show their hands.

Both Castellana and Balooshi were winners over blown cars and they recorded the two quickest ETs of that round of eliminations with a 5.984 and 5.946 respectively, guaranteeing them lane choice in the semi-finals.
