National Championship Classes

After a year off Nigel Payne returned to contest Super Modified, and the Nimbus Motorsport backed team resumed where they had left off; low qualifying with a 7.44/182, picking up low et with a 7.381/183 and the event win over 2010 champion Andy ‘Fred’ Hone with a 7.409/184.32mph to gain the class ET and speed records into the bargain.

Super Pro ET saw a bumper field whittled down to a match up between the wise old heads of John Atkinson and John Everitt. Atkinson prevailed in his Ford Consul Estate (station wagon to our North American readers) when Everitt and his T altered pulled a red trying to make up the near second difference in their dial-ins. The Thunderball win give Atkinson a solid start in trying to convert the number 2 plate into 1 for 2012.

Doubling up in Super Pro and JDS Pro classes, John Bradshaw demonstrated that a couple of seasons of hardwork with the Project ZED Nissan was beginning to pay dividends, ripping off high six second passes with a 6.776/203 best over the weekend. The accolade of the first Jap car into the sixes in Europe grabbing the headlines and pleasing new sponsor Motul Oil on their first outing.
