We’d arrived at Santa Pod looking forward to the very real prospect of the first six second pass in UEM Pro Stock Bike, and when we spotted George Bryce emerging from the Sovereign G2 Buell team pit on the Friday evening before the two days of pro qualifying the team’s primary rider Jesper Thiel (fresh from a winning performance in Hungary) seemed to be in pole position. Well, the wind didn’t quite play ball, Bryce estimating that it was costing the stockers at least two-tenths, but Thiel extended his early season championship lead with a 7.251/174 that was someway ahead of Fredrik Fredlund’s 7.347.
A second round of the international Super Street Bike mini-series as a taster for further competition next season took place at the Main Event. Although this was marred by Wayne Saunders’ ‘off’ in the shutdown area after a 7.499194.91 clocking that left the veteran bruised scrapped and with a few broken ribs, Steve Venables produced a 7.352 to set the pace for the field and Ven would have been short odds make it back-to-back UK victories in the series after Dave Smith’s win in Hungary at the start of May.
