European speed record holder and eventual event runner-up, Risto Poutiainen picked up the honours for the first 300 mph clocking over 1000 foot with a 4.028/305.32 mph to take second spot behind TJ Jr. He defeated Andy Carter in a walkover with a 4.104 early click off and then bested fellow Finn Anita Mäkelä in the race of the event with a 4.081/304.20 holeshot overcoming a 4.027/300.40 by just over an inch at the stripe. Although a whiff of tire smoke and early shut-off in the final slowed Poutiainen to a 4.378 against TJ Jr., these two are developing a rivalry for the rest of the season.
